Double glazing

The upgrade you feel every winter.

Double glazing is one of the most worthwhile changes a Christchurch home can make. Two panes of glass with a sealed gap and a Low-E coating hold far more heat inside through winter, soften the noise from the street, and stop the condensation that pools on your sills each morning.

What you'll notice with double glazing.

A double-glazed unit is two panes of glass sealed around a spacer, with a still layer of gas trapped between them. That layer is a poor conductor, so much less heat escapes through the glass than it would through a single pane. Add a near-invisible Low-E coating and a thermally broken aluminium frame and the inner pane stays warm enough to keep clear of condensation in normal conditions. We build and fit the whole thing ourselves, so what you're quoted is what you get.

A Christchurch home with new Low-E double-glazed aluminium windows
Lower power bills
Swapping single glazing for Low-E double glazing in a thermally broken frame can cut heat loss through the window by up to 73%.* Your heater then spends less time running to hold the same room temperature.
Dry windows in the morning
The inner pane stays warm enough that moisture stops settling on it, so you wake up to clear glass and dry sills instead of reaching for a towel.
Quieter rooms
The sealed unit dampens road and neighbourhood noise. On the busier streets around Christchurch that makes a real difference.
No cold zone by the glass
Single glazing leaves a cold pocket near the window. Double glazing evens the temperature across the room, so the whole space stays usable in winter.
Better resale appeal
A warm, dry, efficient home is an easy thing to sell, and double glazing is increasingly what buyers expect to find.
Two ways to get there
Keep your timber surrounds with insert sashes, or replace the window outright. Both give you Low-E double glazing, and we'll point you to whichever works out better value for your home.

*Estimated heat-loss reduction through the window versus single-glazed, non-thermally-broken aluminium. Actual performance depends on window size, glass configuration and install quality, and does not represent total household energy savings.

Two systems. Specced for your job.

Both share the same frame profile and hardware family: pick by thermal performance and opening size. We'll spec the right one during quote.

Can't find what you're after? Send us a note and we'll come back inside three working days.
For most homes, yes. Going from single glazing to Low-E double glazing in thermally broken frames can cut heat loss through the window by up to 73% compared with single-glazed standard frames. You get a warmer, quieter home with far less condensation and better resale appeal, and the saving keeps adding up over the decades the joinery lasts. (Estimated figure; actual performance depends on your home.)
